The Duke Social Support and Stress Scale (DUSOCS) is a validated, 24-item self-report questionnaire for measuring family and nonfamily social support and stress. Six categories of family are used (spouse or significant other, children / grandchildren, parents / grandparents, brothers / sisters, other blood relatives, and relatives by marriage); four categories of nonfamily members are included (neighbors, coworkers, church members, and other friends). The DUSOCS also allows the identification of one’s most supportive and most stressful relationships.
